Hidden 5 miles up a trackless canyon, this geological feature of pilar-like basaltic columns was formed by an ancient lava flow which cooled slowly and evenly. While it may be glimpsed from the canyon floor, it cannot be appreciated fully without this view from the near the top of the ridge.
